The Wildlife Conservation Society EU Office (WCS EU), The Nature Conservancy (TNC), the Belgian Biodiversity Platform, and the IUCN World Commission on Protected Areas (WCPA) organised a Technical Workshop on 'Implementing the new Global Biodiversity Framework: Making Target 3 work for People and Nature' on 15th May 2023 at the Royal Belgian Institute of Natural Sciences in Brussels.
The historic Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework (GBF), under the UN Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD), has led the way to a new era of global cooperation on biodiversity conservation and we are excited to contribute to its implementation.
Following the organisation of a successful joint event in November 2022 focused on the CBD COP15 and UNFCCC COP27, the Wildlife Conservation Society EU Office (WCS EU), The Nature Conservancy (TNC), and the Belgian Biodiversity Platform joined forces again, this time together with the IUCN World Commission on Protected Areas (WCPA), to organise a follow-up event at the Royal Belgian Institute of Natural Sciences in Brussels on Monday, May 15th, 2023.
This technical workshop was divided into four main sessions, each of which focused on a critical aspect of the implementation of Target 3 under the GBF, including: ensuring ecological representativeness and integrity; ensuring benefits to people; marine and inland water conservation; and supporting and financing implementation.
A workshop report is available here.
