UNTOC Protocol. On 22nd April, WCS EU and 102 organisations called for the EU to support the development of a Protocol to the UN Convention against Transnational Organized Crime (UNTOC) on Crimes that Affect the Environment. A unified EU position in support of developing a Protocol would significantly strengthen momentum and increase the likelihood of meaningful progress. Read more
Illegally Sourced Wildlife. On 17th April, WCS EU and other NGOs released a joint position paper on the Trinomics’ study on the need for, added value and feasibility of criminalising all trade in illegal wildlife across the EU, urrging the EU to ensure that the response to the feasibility study includes both improved data collection and a legislative solution. Global Europe Instrument. On 2nd March, WCS EU and 97 organisations, including several of the world’s leading conservation, environmental, animal health and welfare, and development organisations, as well as research and scientific institutions, youth groups, foundations, companies, livelihood associations, and local authorities, called for the EU to prioritise biodiversity in the next Global Europe Instrument.
