The 15th edition of the European Development Days (EDDs) took place on the 21st and 22nd of June 2022. The Wildlife Conservation Society (WCS) participated in the hybrid event and exchanged views with its long-lasting partners on topics such as infrastructure development impacts on biodiversity and forests, the protection of ecosystems with high ecological integrity, One Health, and pandemic prevention at source.
The EDDs included more than 90 sessions and events and 300+ speakers from all over the world, around the theme ‘Global Gateway: building sustainable partnerships for a connected world’. Over the two days, about 4000 participants visited the in-person event, with another 3500 joining online.
Biodiversity loss, climate change, and environmental degradation are defining challenges of our generation and require more coordinated and incisive international efforts. The COVID-19 pandemic has shown the interlinkages between human health and a healthy planet. The post-COVID recovery should be an opportunity to build back greener and more inclusive societies and economies.
