The Finnish Ministry of Environment, the Belgian Biodiversity Platform, the International Coral Reef Initiative (ICRI), and the Wildlife Conservation Society (WCS) organised an informal exchange regarding Ecosystem Integrity and its role in the post-2020 Global Biodiversity Framework (GBF). This event was for EU officials and stakeholders, and a similar event from a more global perspective has been submitted for the resumed meetings of SBSTTA3 and OEWG3.
The webinar took place on 14th December 2021 with participants including EU officials and other interested individuals. It constituted an opportunity for dialogue and scientific/technical discussion on the topic of ecological integrity in the context of the post-2020 GBF. The full spectrum of integrity was addressed, from highly intact forests and coral reefs to semi-natural productive landscapes and seascapes. The webinar built on discussions over the past 2 years, including a reception that WCS & the Finnish Ministry of Environment (Finland held the EU Council Presidency at the time) co-organised in October 2019 on the 'Forest Landscape Integrity Index'.
